so this is christmas, and what have you done?

I’m somehow less settled than I was when I first moved here. Stupid expectations! Or stupid expectations that I didn’t even realize I had until they weren’t met. In the back of my head I had this image of me getting into a routine by Christmas. It didn’t even have to be a formal routine… I just thought I’d have some idea of why I was here and what was expected of me. Or that maybe I’d have set up my house in some functional way. The reality is quite the opposite. Most mornings I feel happy when I can figure out something to eat that doesn’t involve rice or blue band. Stupid blue-band! It’s like margarine but worse. I don’t have a refrigerator but that blue band looks the same as when I bought it two months ago. Better even. My unusually social mice haven’t tried to touch it and I really think that’s saying something. If only it were saying something I wanted to listen to.

Today is Christmas and Bobby’s here visiting which has been both weird and amazing. We’re about to head up to a local villager’s house where I predict we’ll be force-fed an unhealthy serving of Matooke and goat meat. Should be a good time! Merry Christmas!
